As summer is coming to a close, and fall is just around the corner, changes will be taking place all around: children will be returning to school, leaves will be falling from the trees, and the days will become shorter. Another change that people will be experiencing is that of their exercise routines on the reflex bag. Most people would admit that being active and exercising in the summer tends to be easier than in the fall season. However, below are a few tips to help people to continue to exercise even throughout the fall time of year. First, walking is a wonderful form of exercise any time of year. Depending on the weather, one can either walk around his or her neighborhood or inside the local mall. Walking is also an exercise that the whole family can do together and can serve as a time for family members to catch up on their day. Second, gardening can serve as great exercise even during the fall months. Many crops do well in the crispness of fall, and in addition to getting the exercise that a body needs individuals will also reap some tasty benefits from this activity. Third, joining and going to a gym or the local YMCA can help individuals continue to exercise throughout the colder months. Most gyms have swimming pools, racquetball courts, weight rooms, walking tracks, and exercise classes to give their members a variety of physical activities from which to choose. Fourth, biking or horseback riding can help one to stay active during the fall months. Here in the Blue Ridge Mountains area, the Parkway is a wonderful place to ride during this time of changing foliage. One can find the local bike or horseback riding trails in his or her area and enjoy this lovely time of colorful changes while getting his or her exercise. Also, biking to work or horseback riding in appropriate places can serve as "green" modes of transportation and help to conserve gas that is used by automobiles. Fifth, becoming a player on a fall sports team can enable one to get his or her exercise. Soccer, football, lacrosse, and basketball are popular fall sports, and local recreational clubs and traveling teams offer these activities as possible ways of being active during this time of year.
Lastly, one should keep a few things in mind regardless of the mode of exercise that is chosen. Always drink lots of water while exercising. Select an exercise that fits your ability level. Consult a physician before beginning an exercise routine, particularly if it has been a while since engaging in exercise or if pregnant. Pick an enjoyable exercise that one will be likely to continue.
