The students have been working on counting back change in math this week. Please help your child with this skill, as it is a very important one. Set up scenarios in which they have to count back change when you give them a $1, $5, or $10 bill. It will help out greatly.
In reading, we have been focusing on drawing conclusions with a story titled William's House. A test was given on Thursday. I am still having students not using their stories to help them on the test, and they are the ones that are doing corrections during recess!
In social studies, we have been studying local history and timelines along with pioneer life on the Oregon Trail. The students are in the midst of a pioneer simulation in which problem-solving skills and group decisions have to be made. Thank you all that helped your kids get the wagon supply list completed! It was a large undertaking!
A reminder that the 3rd grade field trip to Ward-Meade Park in north Topeka is scheduled for next Friday. We will leave the elementary school at 8:30 AM. A sack lunch will need to be packed, as we plan on eating at the park before returning to the school at approximately 12:30 PM.
Also, thank you to the parents that showed up for your scheduled parent/teacher conferences. I try to be as flexible as possible with your schedule, as this is a very important meeting for you and your child. I would appreciate a notice if you plan on missing the conference. A simple phone call or e-mail would suffice.
