As another week comes to a close, we have learned how to successfully tell time to the nearest minute on a clock. We finished this math skill with an outcome test, in which the students performed beautifully on! We were able to move on to data and graphs to end the week.
In reading, we finished a story titled The Gardener in which a girl has to move in with her uncle during the Great Depression until her own family's finances were straightened out. She learned how to successfully start up a garden which helped her uncle's business blossom into a money-maker. A test was given online and once again, the students performed quite well! In grammar, we have been focusing on a difficult skill of finding action and linking verbs. We will continue this skill next week to help reinforce this important language concept. A spelling test was given on contractions this week. THERE IS NO SPELLING LIST OR READING STORY next week, as it's only a 2-day week. Students will be presenting their book report projects during reading class on those two days. I hope that your child has been working diligently on this project so that it is something that they can be proud of! I always tell them that a last-minute effort results in what looks like a "thrown together at the last minute" project. Please speak with your child about their progress and see to it that if they have a presentation for the class, that they rehearse it before showing their hard work to the class. Part of their grade is how well they present their reports.
In science, we finished an outcome test on the eight planets in our solar system. We are now moving into Native Americans in social studies. We will finish this on Tuesday of next week.
Students have been working on creating their own password-protected website in which will be used to show off their learning in class. Look for projects and podcasts that they create to be posted to this online digital portfolio. They will share with you the password so you can view their website. We have basically been "toying" with the options that the website has to offer so that they are comfortable using the available tools.
Have a great weekend! Thanks for all you do!
