The snow has fallen, but luckily the students' progress hasn't! We have been plugging away regardless. Math has been a time for learning about measurement, fractions, data, and graphs. Next week we will begin with geometric shapes. Plane figures (2D) and solid figures (3D) will be the topic. We will then move on with area and perimeter of shapes along with lots of review of all skills taught this year to prepare for the state math assessment in April.
Reading has been primarily a time for review of assessment skills, test-taking strategies, and becoming comfortable with the online format of the real Kansas State Assessment that begins on Monday next week. We will begin on Monday with a kickoff breakfast of pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy! After everyone has eaten a good breakfast, will head back to our classrooms and start on the REAL Kansas State Assessments! The students have worked hard, but the main focus they need to have is to TAKE THEIR TIME! A good night's sleep, a good breakfast, and bringing healthy snacks to school are the recipes for success. A note was sent home on blue paper from Mr. Sturgeon regarding this important time of the year!
Science has been a time of learning about Newton's Laws of Motion along with some simple machines. Lots of fun hands-on activities have been completed and they're having tons of fun!
Please remember to keep checking your child's planner. This is mainly used as a communication tool regarding their behavior each day. Without you checking and signing the planner each night, you will never know of any behavioral changes in your child. Don't use the excuse that "they didn't show it to me." Always ask to see the planner.
Thanks for all you do,
