This week, the students have finished chapter one in their new Go Math! series. This is obviously a steep learning curve for all involved. The nice thing about this series, is that you as a parent can have your child show you how to log in to their online account and check their test scores and see what questions they actually missed. Any parent involvement in this process would be better than none at all! It takes little time to do and would be beneficial to your child's success. You will also be more aware of what your child is being tested on and what the expectations are from this new math series.
In language arts, the students finished reading an expository nonfiction story titled Penguin Chick. A test was given on Thursday along with a spelling test. The skill of the week was finding the main idea and supporting details that go along with it. We will continue next week with penguin research, so there won't be a story that goes home next week. Students will conduct their research into a paragraph about a penguin species that they choose to read about. This paragraph will then end up as a podcast on their own websites. Look for those to be published by the end of the week if all goes well!
In science, the students have been studying about living and nonliving things along with parts of animals. We will continue to study science skills next week as well with our penguin research.
Remember that science day is just around the corner scheduled for October 4.
Thank you for all you do,
