As I am typing this memo, the students in 3rd grade are watching "March of the Penguins" as a reward for their hard work researching penguins this week. Look for podcasts to be published next week to their websites. I know the students are getting excited to start using their websites as a location to share their hard work they do throughout the school year! I'll also share the password to access your child's website as well. Keep in mind that this is a work in progress, so not much will be on it the first go round.
Math has been spent working on subtraction with regrouping. I am pleased with the students' work ethic on this skill. They are picking this concept up much quicker than I anticipated. Remember parents, on my Websites page there is a plethora of reinforcement websites they can click on to practice these skills at home along with many other items.
Science time has been spent learning about how Earth moves both on its axis and in orbit around the Sun. We also learned about why we have seasons when we do. Finally, as the week came to a close, the renowned Jefferson West Elementary Science Day sent the students into a learning frenzy. Much was learned in a short amount of time. We want to thank the wonderful volunteers who came in to help out with this awesome opportunity. It couldn't have happened without your help! Pictures can be found on the District Website in the upcoming days.
Remember that Parent/Teacher conferences have been scheduled for the week of October 15-18. I am still missing some conference slips from some of you, so be sure to send them back ASAP. It shows that you are concerned with your child's education.
We will be taking a field trip to Ward-Meade Park in Topeka Friday, October 26 in the morning. Weather permitting, we will eat a sack lunch there, otherwise we will take our lunches and eat them in the classroom when we return. Permission slips and dues will be sent home in the upcoming week.
Thanks for all you do,
