I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break as much as I did. Rainy or not, it was a nice time to refocus, re-energize, and reflect on the accomplishments thus far on our school year for me. Over the break, I was able to get some errands ran and much-needed lawn repair done.
This week in math, we have finished reviewing for the Kansas State Math Assessment, which starts next Tuesday and will finish next Thursday. We have been reviewing over skill items and test-taking strategies in hopes of preparing them for great success on this test. There will be NOTHING that they won't know how to solve, aside from the fact that sometimes the wording of certain questions can throw some for a loop. This test can be as much reading as it is solving math problems, so it can be challenging for some, if not ALL! Please be sure that your child once again comes to school well-rested and well-fed with a nice healthy breakfast so we can produce our best results. After all, that is what sets Jeff West apart from the crowd!
In reading this week, we finished a story titled Me and Uncle Romie, which is a fictional story about a boy who visits his uncle in New York City. It is actually based on a REAL character, Romare Bearden, who was a famous collage artist during a time known as the Harlem Renaissance. The students were rather intrigued by his style of art. A test was given this Friday on it along with a spelling test instead of Thursday because we didn't have school Monday.
Of course in science, we all know what the students did. They presented their science projects in class. I know very well that the timing of this experiment over Spring Break wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I must say, I was impressed with the amount of work that went into the displays and projects! They were WAY more that I was even expecting. The class enjoyed learning about what everyone chose to do and how they conducted the experiments. They were displayed in the gym Friday afternoon from 1:30-3:00 for all to view and enjoy.
Thank you for all you do and have a great weekend!
