In reading, we finished up a fable titled What About Me?, which teaches us the lesson that knowledge comes to us when we least expect it and that by helping others, you are helping yourself gain knowledge. A test was given on Thursday. The spelling pattern was plurals, with words ending in -s, -es, and -ies. A test was also given on Thursday on the i-Pods. In grammar, we have been focusing on complete subjects and complete predicates.
In science, we have finished up our studies on the life cycles of plants and animals. An open-book test was given on Friday, so no study guide was sent home.
Next week is only a 3-day week for the students, but we will still have a story and spelling words. A test will be given on both on FRIDAY instead of Thursday. It's a short story that students do very well on, so I'm confident that 3 days will be sufficient time to teach them the skill of sequence, as it's the same skill that they learned this week. Next week's spelling words are -ing words.
We will be switching from science to social studies next week and will focus on economics.
Have a safe Labor Day weekend! I will look forward to bright-eyed and bushy-tailed students when everyone returns!
