This week in math we finished up chapter 8 with a test. We still have a few that need to finish these up on Monday. Once all are completed, results will be posted in PowerSchool. Next week, we will begin on chapter 9, which is you guessed it, more fractions. We will be comparing and ordering fractions with like numerators and like denominators. Fraction strips will be used to model their thinking on this skill.
Reading has been a time to focus on multicultural stories. This week, we finished up a story titled How My Family Lives in America. Facts and opinions were reviewed once again for the skill of the week. A spelling test, comprehension test, and AR test was given on this Thursday. Next week we will continue in Unit 5 with a story titled Goodbye, 382 Shin Dang Dong. It is a story about a girl that moves to the United States from Korea. Tests will be given on Friday due to the 4-day week.
Social studies has been focusing on good citizenship, immigration, and local governments. This week, we will continue with chapter 8 and dig a little deeper on the topic of local, state, and national governments and their branches.
Thank you all for sending Valentine's cards/candy/treats. The kids look forward to this celebration. It sure puts a smile on their face when it's party time! It is the last holiday party of the year, but many celebrations will continue throughout the spring semester. Be sure to check up on your child's AR goals. The link is HERE. You might need to contact the school for your login and password. All parents can check up on their child's progress at home any time they choose. It keeps me from printing loads of paper!
Thanks for all you do,
