Welcome back to a new year! After 18 days off for break, I suppose it's time time to get back on track. In math this week, we have continued our practice of multiplication facts along with division facts. This has been taught as fact families so that they visualize facts as three numbers that go together. 2 x 4 = 8 so therefore 8/4 = 2. Algebra and variables have been discussed as well. 2b = 8. What does b equal? b=4.
In reading this week, we have been comparing and contrasting information on the world's record holders in a story titled Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest. Venn diagrams have been used again to help organize this information. In grammar, we have learned about subjective and objective pronouns. We will continue this difficult skill into next week. A reading and spelling test was given on Thursday. A new Family Times will be sent home today, so be sure to look it over and post it on your refrigerator so you know the outline of next week's story, spelling list, and grammar skill.
In social studies, we have been researching Kansas communities. We will continue with our Kansas studies next week as we find out more information about the Sunflower State.
As we progress into the third quarter of the school year, it is important that you make sure your child stays on top of their assignments and gets their planner signed each night. Unfinished work or homework needs to be asked about nightly. Don't just take their word for it, dig for it! Reading for AR points, studying spelling words, and practicing math facts are items that don't require much paper, but make a big difference in your child's success in the classroom.
Thanks for all you do,
