We have been chanting the class motto this year after the flag salute, which goes a little something like this: "Good, Better, Best! Never let it rest! Til your good is your better, and your better is your best!" The students have been taught the difference between what's good, what's better, and what's best when it comes to effort in the classroom and in life.
This week in math, we have been learning about different properties of addition, such as commutative, associative, and identity property. Examples: Commutative: 4+3 = 3+4 Associative: 7+(4+3) = 4+(7+3) Identity: 4+0=4
We have also began rounding numbers to the nearest ten and hundred.
Reading has been a time to learn about sequence in a story and why following a sequence of events is important to comprehending a story. We read What About Me? which is a fable where a boy is on a life-long search for knowledge. A spelling test was given on plurals that end in -s, -es, and -ies.
In science, we have been learning about parts of plants, their life cycle and how they grow from seed to flower and fruit.
I want to say a big Thank You to all that showed up for Open House. As you know, this is a very important event in which I am able to extend out to the families on how things are ran in my classroom. Those of you that showed up definitely proved to me that you take your child's learning seriously.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend and enjoys the 3 days off!
