As the spring season ever-so-slowly approaches us, I am reminded of the frenzy of activity that hits us all this time of year. As the weather warms up (hopefully sooner than later), students and teachers alike tend to lose focus on the task at hand. I am writing to help you remind your child(ren) to always work hard to the finish line.
We still have five weeks of school left (is that all???) and we can choose to slack off and let behaviors get in the way of our goals or we can choose to finish the race.
This Friday we celebrated The Month of the Military Child. We currently have two students in our classroom who have fathers that are currently serving in the military. The sacrifices that everyone makes in order for their child to succeed is nothing short of amazing! Everyone wore purple in honor of this special celebration.
Reading will be finishing up in two more weeks from our Reading Street textbook. That means we have officially finished reading 30 stories this year as a class out of this series. After this, we will continue our reading with research on grassland biomes of the world. This will also be our science until the end of the year. Digital presentations will be made by the four different groups and will be given to the elementary classes during the last week of school. The four main grassland biomes that we will be researching are the North American Prairie, the South American Pampas, the Eurasian Steppe, and the African Savannah. I have created a biomes page on my website that includes much of the necessary information they will need in order to conduct accurate research.
Another 4 day week next week means that our reading and spelling tests will be on Friday instead of Thursday. Just as I tell my ball players each night, I will challenge my students that each day is a day to get better at something. Remember to Be Prepared, Work Hard, and FINISH!
Have a great weekend!
