Well, this week ended well! We finished chapter 9 in math by successfully passing our test. EVERYONE passed the test! We will begin next week with chapter 10, which is time, elapsed time, length, liquid volume, and mass. This can potentially be a tough set of skills to master without help at home. Please be sure to check over your child's work to see what all is going on in math during this time. Many of these skills haven't been taught to the students prior this chapter, so many concepts are brand new to them.
Reading and spelling tests were taken yesterday and everyone passed successfully. I'm beginning to see a pattern with successful test-taking! We will finish up unit 5 next week with a story titled Me and Uncle Romie. A test will be given in spelling and reading on Thursday next week. The following week, we will possibly be focusing on some Common Core standard mini-lessons that won't include a Reading Street story or spelling list. More information will be ready by the end of next week regarding this.
Science has resumed with physical science. We have been learning about forces and will be learning more about Newton's laws of motion along with levers, pulleys, and other simple machines. This is a very hands-on unit that allows for some great inquiry learning...not to mention my favorite part of science!
I will be absent next Thursday and Friday, as I will be going to the annual MACE conference...Mid-America Conference for computers in Education. I will be learning more tech skills at this conference to share with fun lessons for my students. It is a valuable conference, as it helps me keep things relevant with today's digital learners. Students have been told their expectations with a substitute while I'm gone. They're not used to having a substitute in my room as I rarely, if ever, miss a day of school. (I may be bragging a bit.:))
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for all you do!
