This week finds the 3rd grade working diligently on fractions in math. I am so impressed with their comprehension of this skill. So far, we have been working on parts of a whole, fractions on a number line, comparing and ordering fractions, and equivalent fractions. We will continue working on equivalent fractions and comparing and ordering fractions next week. These have only been introduced and worked on during their TenMarks sessions online. We created some neat Fraction Flags for our door this week as well where they had to design a flag and divide it up into equal parts, color, and create a crest for the center of the flag. Neat activity!
In reading, we finished up another biography about Gertrude Ederle. Fact and opinion was the skill once again. A test was given today since it was a short week. Spelling tests and pretests for next week were also given. The grammar skill was finished up on contractions. They picked this skill up very quickly.
In science, we have learned about different animal classifications and body systems in animals that help them survive. Be sure to check your child's websites for any recent blog topics that you would like to comment on.
Reminder that in ART class the students need to bring a cereal box from home for a project they are working on. If you haven't sent a dollar in for your child's contribution towards the Banana Split party next Friday, please do so. This way we can assure that we do get to purchase enough ingredients for this goal that they have worked so hard to meet!
Thanks for all you do,
